Biography

Alison Pilkington was born in Sligo in 1967. She graduated with a Diploma in Fine Art Painting and Printmaking from Sligo RTC in 1989 and with a BA Hons in Fine Art Painting from National College Art & Design in 1990. She completed an MA in Film and TV studies in Dublin City University in 1994.
Pilkington specialises in relief printmaking and lithography, and in particular has concentrated on an etched lino technique to produce graphic work that echoes the strong painterly qualities that she has become known for. She draws inspiration for her graphic work from her paintings. The work is process led and this ulitimatley determines the outcome of the image. She has produced large scale print installations that combine print, video and painting.
Pilkington has exhibitied widely throughout the last ten years in Ireland and abroad. Her work has been selected for group shows in Ireland, Scotland, England and the United States, and she has had solo exhibitions in Belltable Arts Centre Limerick, Sligo Art Gallery, Basement Gallery Dundalk, The Workroom Dublin, and the Kevin Kavanagh Dublin. Her work is in numerous public and private collections including the Office of Public Works, Univeristy College Dublin and Bank Of Ireland.
