Jack Doherty Part of Mashiko Museum Exhibition

Jack Doherty is one of the featured artists of ‘Vessels: The Spirit of Modern British Ceramics’, currently on at the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art, Japan. The exhibition showcases an overview of British ceramics and its evolution from the nineteenth century to today. The exhibition also features Gordon Baldwin, Alison Britton and Elizabeth Fritsch among others. View this powerful exhibition until March 29th.

Furniture designer and wood turner Cillian Ó Súilleabháin is making news for his innovative designs which were being shown at the London Design Festival and Wallpaper* Magazine’s open house.

A chest of drawers from Ó Súilleabháin, Tetrahedra, will be part of Wallpaper* magazine’s open house in London. The Wallpaper* editors have designed an apartment at 155 Sloane Street which will be on view to the public in October. The open house is a great opportunity to meet the Wallpaper* team and get a tour of the apartment which features works and bespoke pieces by leading designers, artists, makers and brands.

Ó Súilleabháin was also featured on the Financial Times website and Image.ie for his work in the Tent London. The annual design trade show Tent London is one of the most creative hubs of the London Design Festival, featuring the best in contemporary design.

Amárach/Interplay Opening

SO Fine Art Editions held the opening for its new exhibition Amárach/Interplay on Thursday, September 11. The event was opened by Irish fashion designer Michael Mortell and gallery director Catherine O’Riordan, who spoke on the significance of the pieces and artists involved.

The gallery was delighted to have several of the designers and artists featured in the exhibition to speak with guests about their works and practice.

SO Fine Art Editions ‘Young’ artists in Irish Arts Review

There’s been much going on with several SO Fine Art Editions’ artists lately. Derek Wilson, who makes the porcelain vessels seen above is displaying work in Wallpaper* Magazine’s Handmade Exhibition in New York City. Derek Wilson’s practice centres on the making of a diverse range of contemporary objects – from the functional to the sculptural. His objects, in their colour, shape and materiality, reference the ideas of restraint, containment and minimalism.

Nuala O’Donovan and her delicate, intricate porcelain pieces is feature in the May 24th issue of the Wall Street Journal. The article and more of Nuala’s work can be seen here.  Nuala is also exhibiting currently at Tansey Contemporary gallery, Santa Fe, New Mexico. The show ‘Biodiversity and Human Impact on the Environment’ runs until 17th June.

Victoria Bentham in Northern Ireland Homes & Lifestyle Magazine

SO Fine Art Editions’ artist Victoria Bentham is featured in this month’s Northern Ireland Homes & Lifestyle Magazine. The magazine visited her studio where she makes her ceramic dishes from rich black clay. Victoria then patterns using antique wooden printing blocks, hand cut stencils, and print techniques, inspired by memories of childhood. Read Victoria’s interview about the challenges and rewards of her art form is in this month’s issue on stands now.

SO Fine Arts in Irish Independent

SO Fine Art Editions’ current exhibition Young has been reviewed in the May 10 issue of the Irish Independent Weekend Review. Arts Editor Sophie Gorman features Patrick Hogan and his photograph Untitled 014, with insight about the piece and the story behind its subject. Sophie also called the show “original” and “compelling”.

Artists in Home Accents Magazine

SO Fine Art Editions’ artists Victoria Bentham and Alison Lowry are featured in this month’s Home Accents Magazine. The American magazine showcases the latest in Irish craftsmanship with Bentham’s ceramic dishes and Lowry’s glass vessels among others. SO Fine Art Editions has announced its new exhibition, Young, featuring emerging artists in printmaking, photography and applied arts. The exhibition opens Thursday, May 8th at 6:00pm, and runs through June 14th. Read more here.
